In the words of the great Scottish-American steel king and extraordinary philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie, “No man can become rich without himself enriching others.” At Walthall Oil Company, we are thankful for the community who has supported our business since 1952. We believe in community involvement and strive to enrich the community through our personal participation of local organizations and monetary support for events and non-profits. Here are a few organizations that are near and dear to our heart:
Macon Regional Crimestoppers
Frank Walthall III, President and CEO, has served on the board of directors since the inception of Macon Regional Crimestoppers and is regularly engaged in all of the great work the organization does for the community. Each year in November, Walthall Oil Company serves as a Platinum Sponsor for the annual Macon Regional Crimestoppers banquet.
Macon Regional Crimestoppers is a local non-profit serving the Bibb, Baldwin, Houston, Jones, Twiggs, Crawford, Monroe, and Peach regional areas. Through Crimestoppers’ deployed systems as well as the cooperation with local law enforcement agencies and the 911 Center, citizens in our community have a safe, secure, and confidential means to report crimes. If a ‘tip’ results in an arrest – a reward is paid confidentially and anonymously.
Local law enforcement agencies conduct Crimestoppers investigations, but a board of directors made up of citizens from a broad cross-section of the community is responsible for establishing Macon Regional Crimestoppers’ policy, raising funds, and determining the amount and method of reward payments. Macon Regional Crimestoppers is a nonprofit corporation funded by contributions from the community and federal programs.
Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce
The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce is a working partnership of business and professional people who understand the wisdom of coordinating their efforts under effective leadership for advancement and development of the community and the free enterprise system.
Since 2014, Walthall Oil Company has been the presenting sponsor for the Macon Economic and Development Commission’s Annual Business & Industry Awards Luncheon. Each year various businesses around Middle Georgia are highlighted and recognized for their impact in the community, overall work environment, efforts to be environmentally conscientious, and corporate citizenship.
Wesley Walthall, Vice President of Sales at Walthall Oil Company, has served on the board for the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce and was nominated to the Leadership Macon Class of 2012 where he participated in a year-long program that focuses on the attributes and challenges of Macon and Bibb County. The class explores possible projects and solutions and interacts with political and community leaders.
Cherry Blossom Festival
Each March, Macon comes alive with color as over 350,000 pink Yoshino cherry trees begin to bloom. The Festival attracts thousands of visitors to our city, and for ten days, we celebrate delicious food, live music, arts and crafts, and everything pink. One of the highlights of the Cherry Blossom Festival is the Bed Race in Downtown Macon. For over 10 years, Walthall Oil Company has been the presenting sponsor for the annual Cherry Blossom Bed Race. The event is held each year with teams building their own vehicles that are raced down Cherry Street in Downtown Macon. Thousands of patrons attend to watch the exciting race.
