The new API specifications for heavy-duty engine oil, CK-4 and FA-4, are now in effect. New engine oils designed for these specifications will comply with federal regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve fuel economy.
Trucks running CK-4 and FA-4 oils will also benefit from improved oxidation stability, aeration control, and shear stability.
- CK-4 oils are enhanced replacements to CJ-4 oils. They are fully backward compatible and can address the needs of fleets with both newer and older engines.
- FA-4 oils represent low-viscosity engine oils designed to improve fuel economy for modern and future engines.
Both CK-4 and FA-4 formulas provide better protection against:
Shearing
The shearing of polymers used in multigrade oils into smaller pieces, which can permanently reduce oil viscosity.
